We live in an increasingly mobile and digital world. This is true even of Track Star solutions — to function properly, GPS tracking and Internet of Things-connected telematics devices must be connected to the internet. Track Star solutions make these connections in one of three ways: by cellular network, by satellite network, or by a true multi-mode communication network.

Cellular Network Connectivity

By default, Track Star operates using cellular connectivity. It is inexpensive and coverage across the US is fairly extensive — but there are gaps, especially as you move away from large urban and suburban areas.

Satellite Tracking

Satellite connected devices are available for those who primarily operate in cell coverage gaps. It is also available for those who simply prefer satellite connectivity. Operational costs for satellite connection are slightly higher than for cellular connection.

Multi-Mode Connectivity

The third option is true multi-mode — when activated, certain Track Star IoT devices can automatically, and seamlessly, switch from cellular to satellite connectivity. This extends the reach of Track Star devices into cellular dead zones and across international borders.

Bluetooth Asset Tracking

Bluetooth (BLE) capabilities are available for certain use cases in conjunction with Track Star’s enterprise asset management platform, as well — for instance, tagging all of the equipment that belongs on a truck, enabling your staff to take quick on-site inventories of gear.

Many industries — mining and extraction, oil and gas, and logging, to name a few — operate in remote, often harsh environments. They also rely on heavy equipment to perform their work, but on-site mechanics aren’t always feasible to staff.

Track Star’s comprehensive solution can dramatically simplify far afield remote maintenance work. IoT devices installed on equipment can track important health indicators: if a certain piece of equipment is operating outside of expectations, if a check engine light has activated, and so on.

This enables a technician at home or in the office to then:

  • Remotely inspect the trigger event
  • Diagnose the issue
  • Determine if repairs or maintenance or required
  • Select which tools or parts they will need to bring to the work site

Stay Connected No Matter What

The always-on automatic failover offered on select devices in Track Star’s comprehensive solution gives you network redundancy when your assets are operated in places with uneven cellular coverage. This eliminates the risk of single point of failure issues, and allows for continuous, uninterrupted data transmission, including in remote areas, during widespread cellular outages, and during natural disasters.

Track Star can operate on networks from any provider. This includes networks like FirstNet and T-Priority, which are used by first responders at large scale events and during emergency response actions. This means they’ll retain the network priority that helps them coordinate efforts, no matter what.

In critical situations or emergencies, Track Star can instantly transmit distress signals like lone worker panic alarms, enabling swift intervention and rescue operations. Additionally, it enhances driver safety by providing real-time alerts and notifications for potential hazards or unsafe driving behavior. 

With continuous monitoring and geofencing capabilities, you receive alerts if a vehicle moves outside a designated area or experiences unauthorized use, even if it occurs in a cellular dead zone when connected via satellite.
